How goes your time in Tenerife? Are you happy with your steps in the adaptation in this new life?
My time in Tenerife has been wonderful. I did have a little bit of a hard time adjusting at first, a little bit of a culture shock, but I think I managed. I had a lot of help from my teammates, and now I really enjoy my life here. I am still trying to learn the language, however, maybe not as fast as I expected, but people They all have told me that I’m getting better. So this is good.
What do you think about Superliga’s level?
The Superliga level is amazing. I remember that first tournament that you went to, the Copa de Reina, I was like, Oh, yeah, this is legit volleyball. I got to feel like, Oh, yeah, I’m playing pro. Here I am. Here are all these amazing players. And including my teammates, just being on a team with such a high competitive level has been really good for me and helped me become better in my skill set.
In the last games your game level makes you to be in the seven of the journey regularly.
Yes, I was in the “Septet of the Journey”. Twice now, which is super amazing. I’ve never really gotten any honors like that. And I feel like my work has been acknowledged, but it wouldn’t be possible without my teammates, especially like Ari(Ariadna Priante), our connection.
I’ve never connected with the setter that quickly. The middle and setter connection needs to be really strong to be able to be successful. And in the very short amount of time, me and Ari have been able to connect. And that’s helped me enormously with my offense. And my team needs to get a good pass for us. And Marga and all the catchers, they’re doing a great job. And I think we’re all just working really well together as a team, especially as we enter into the playoff season. And yeah, I’m looking forward to playing Menorca.
Is this the best Lana Radakovic?
I don’t know. I feel like now that I’ve been introduced to a higher, more professional level, I thought that maybe I was reaching a cap to my skill level and how good I can be and my potential. But now that I’ve seen and played, even just in this short amount of time, played with some really good professional players and played in this league, I feel like I have a lot more I can learn, and especially expanding my skills and other things, not just hitting and blocking that middles do. I need to get better at defense. I want to be more consistent with my serve. All these things that will help me be a better player, but also help the team out.
What about the island? Can you know some sites of Tenerife, and take a walk sometimes?
I love I love the island. I think it’s awesome. I did visit the South this weekend, which is absolutely beautiful. It’s a little bit more sunny than La Laguna, but that’s okay. We still get some sun over here. My apartment has a beautiful view of the island, and so I get to wake up every morning and look out. And if it’s a clear day, I can see all the way down the coastline. So that’s freaking awesome. And then, yeah, I love Santa Cruz. I love La Laguna. I’ve been actually more now in La Laguna more often because there’s so many good restaurants and shops and stuff there. And it’s super easy for me to get there from my apartment. I’m excited to explore more of the island. This summer, I’m hoping to stay maybe a little bit longer after the finals and just see more of what the island has to offer. My mom is also here this weekend to watch us in the semifinals, and we got to rent a car.
And so we’ve been traveling around. We went to Teide, and it was absolutely breathtaking. I think it’s awesome. I love it here. And just the lifestyle really… How do I say? The lifestyle fits me very well. And the culture and the people, everyone’s great. The only thing is I need to learn Spanish, but we’re working on it.
What do you think about the semifinals against Menorca? How do you see your team at this moment of the season?
For the semifinals against Menorca, I believe we have a really good chance. Not a really good chance. I believe we’re going to beat them. I know that when they played and before I got here, we beat them at home, and we did end up losing to them at home. I think that they’re going to be a really good opponent to play, and it’s going to be similar to Kiele, where I think we’re going to have a lot of long rallies, and we’re going to have a lot of really high high-intensity plays, and it’s going to be a really good competition. I’m looking forward to this team, playing this team, but also looking forward to what we can do together to be successful. I’m just super excited. I also love playing at home.
I think we definitely need that crowd. I think we need them to be there and be loud. The support really helped us in our last two games against Kiele. And yeah, it’s super important, and I’m really excited because my mom gets to come and watch one of our home games. I’m hoping that it’s just as lively and exciting as the last ones have been.
